CHLORINE IS USED IN ALL WATER TREATMENT PLANTS.

2. www.epa.gov/ppcp Report of prescription drugs in the water supply. Also National Geographic has a report on prescription drugs in our drinking water – April 2010 Special Edition – Water.
I specifically looked at EDC which is by EPA definition Ethylene Dichloride which is chlorinated hydrocarbon. Per the EPA this is found in the waste water from manufacturing plants. These manufactures are listed with their location on the epa web site. There is a potential source of Dioxins in Chlorinated Hydrocarbon manufacturing. And, per the epa these chemicals are a class of persistent broad spectrum insecticides that linger in the environment and accumulate in the food chain.

The epa considers these toxins. There is no cleanup of these toxins that I am aware of.

3. The above two reports show contamination in our water supply and toxins in plastics. If you look up Endocrine disruptor on
Wilipedia you will find the effects of BPA in plastic and dioxins in our water.

1. ToxMap – all chemicals – Superfund sites is Washington state
www.toxmap.nlm.nih.gov
2. Over 300 polllutants in US tap water per Environmental Working Group. www.ewg.org/tap-water

a. Washington, Oregon and California are not listed in the top 10 best tap water states.

b. Per Dept. of Ecology for WA www.ecy.wa.ogv. Washington state has toxic chemicals in its water shed ranging from Dioxins, DDT, PCB< PBDE, TMDL, Chlorinated pesticides, PFC, lead and copper to mentions a few.

3. There are multiple government agencies in place to protect our water quality and supply.
Freedom of Information Act
Environmental Protection Act
Federal Clean Water Act
Toxic substance Control Act
Aquatic Lands Clean UP Act
Model Toxins Control Act
Poisons Act 1972
CERCLA – Comprehensive Environment Response Compensation and Liability Act (SuperFund)
4. We have organizations to evaluate our water and our health.
Us Department of Human Services
WA Health Department office of drinking water
World Health Organization
Endocrine Society
Institute of Children’s Health
PUBMED – US National Library of Medicine

5. Having the legislation and organizational infrastructure gives a great foundation to review and discuss current drinking water quality. Jeffrey Hallender, President of Seventh Generation in 2004 wrote that breast cancer is the number on cancer among women around the world…breast cancer rates have risen steadily and concurrently with the rise in numbers and quantities of synthetic chemicals being manufactured and used…of particular concern is a class of chemicals called organo-chlorines, which are created when chlorine is combined with carbon based substances like hydrocarbons in petroleum. These are…persistent organic pollutants or POPs.
www.consumerhealth reviews.com “ Putting the Breast Cancer/ Chlorine connection on paper”

Chlorine is in all tap water supplied by utilities. Utilities use chlorine to disinfect the water. Each utility adds Chlorine in a pre-prescribed amount. One by- product of this process is Chlorinated Hydrocarbons. One Chlorinated Hydrocarbon found in Washington State tap water are Chloroform (Trichloromethane a haloform) and the other Chlorinated hydrocarben formed as by products is TTHM –Trihalomethanes .

You can also read the bleach bottle label: DANGER CORROSIVE – causes irreversible eye damage. Wear full cover clothing and protective eyewear. If swallowed call poison control. Do not induce vomiting. Store away from children.

Chloroform is carcinogenic per CA Proposal 65 and TTHM is a potential carcinogen per the EPA, www.epa.gov/ Chloroform also causes developmental delay per the CA Proposal 65.
Chloroform and TTHM cause cancer. Other sources found were http://ntp.niehs.nih.gov and http://dx.doi.org and PUBMED: www.pubmed.

Another common contaminate is Nitrate. Per my review of Everett, Monroe, Seattle, Kent, Federal Way, Tacoma and Spokane in Washington State drinking water reports, supplied by the utilities themselves, this contaminate was present in all their reports and in the tap water. The utilities point out that it is not possible to filter out all contaminates and that infants are very susceptible to possible toxicity which could result in Blue Baby syndrome. Infants might also contact diarrhea and become protein intolerant. Per, www.Water.epa.gov/drink also, TM Addiscott and N. Benjamin (2004) “Nitrate and Human Health”. AA Avery , Infant Methomoglobemia. “ Re-examining the roll of drinking water nitrates”.

The other toxic chemical found in all 8 Cities was Fluoride. This is known to cause bond disease over a long period of time. Www.epa.gov/ . There is a great deal of controversy over Fluoride and how it inhibits the uptake of Iodine causing thyroid problems and possible cancer of the thyroid.

Fluoride is a Schedule 2 Poison per the Poisons Act 1972. It is called by fluorotyrosine and pardinon. In 1996 Fluorine -18-FDG was connected to thyroid cancer. www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pudmed

As of January 7, 2011 the EPA and the US Department of Health and Human Services announced that fluoride should be set at the lowest end of the current range for drinking water. They noted that bond health was an issue.

Per Dr. Barry Durrant-Peatfield, Medical Advisor to Thyroid UK stated that fluoride is an enzyme poison. The very young are at risk in baby formula made with fluoridated water. Fluoride distorts protein structure and causes the immune proteins to fail to recognize body proteins causing autoimmune disease. The enzyme poison effect extends to our genes. DNA cannot repair itself and chromosomes are damaged. Fluorides are mutagenic and can cause cancer.

The other chemical found in the drink water reports varied. The following are a few with corresponding health hazards. These were found on the EPA web site.

  1. Barium – Blood pressure
Radium 228 and 226 – increased risk of cancer
    Lye – toxic
Arsenic – Skin damage and increase cancer risk
    Antimoney – Increased blood cholesterol
Toluene – nervous system kidney and or liver disease
    Ethyibenzene – Liver, Kidney problems
Xylenes and Selenium – hair loss, numbness and nervous system problems
NDMA – liver fibrosis, possible carcinogen
    Radon – toxic gas
    Cadnium – Kidney damage, carcinogen

The above were found on the drinking water reports. The toxic chemicals in our rivers lakes and aquifers were located on the Washington State Super Fund Site and are as follows. I listed only a few.

PCB – toxic to the liver- Lake Chelan, Skagit River
Dioxin – carcinogenic – Elliott Bay
Percholate –Immune System, Fetal problems, Liver and Kidney disease– Spokane Count Deep Creek
1/7/11 California revised public health goals for this toxic chemical

PBDE – Flame Retardant now banned – Carcinogenic – Spokane River
- Kent Highlands Land Fill – Kent aquifer
Toxaphene – insecticide, damages lungs, kidneys and nervous system – Columbia River, Spokane River and Snohomish River
Chromium, Carbon Tetrachloride Strontium 90, Tritium and Uranium are all now in the Columbia River. These are carnogenic. 1/11/11 US EPA now requires community water systems to test for chromim 6.
( Manhattan Project – 1943) Hanford.
Chromium, TCE, vinyl Chloride, carbon tetrachloride, hexachlorabutadiene – Boomsnub-Airco – Hazel Dell, WA – Aquifer – This is a 20 year clean up project.
