Career Coaching for the Budding Entrepreneur
People ask me for advice every week on career coaching. What I’ve been finding lately is that in this economy people are striking it on their own, making their own future, and not relying on businesses to take care of them and their families.

Components that can fall within career coaching:
• Past performance problems and development tools
• Resume
• Cover letter
• Identifying job search options best for your skill sets and goals
• Career assessments
• Targeted networking opportunities
• Interview skills
• Determining personal brand
• Help with job offers, salary negotiation and position terms

I would look at career coaching if:
• Having difficulty getting a job
• Been terminated from last job
• Laid off from job and not sure what to do next
• In a dying industry or field
• Going through any kind of transition
• Feel “stuck” in a position
• Not sure how to get that next promotion or a raise

If you are looking at making that jump to entrepreneur, it would be a worthwhile investment to work with a career coach. If you find the right coach for you, they will be able to outline a complete path for you that encompasses your transition with current employer (if you have one), identifying your strengths and weaknesses for best branding approach, timeline, etc.
Critical take-away: Always interview your next potential career coach to ensure it is a good fit for you and their background and area of expertise will help you with your goals. Career coaching is about helping you to break through your own glass ceiling.
You will find that investing in a career coach is very reasonable. Now go out there and make your dreams of entrepreneurship come true!
